Whaleyville Community Day Events

The Whaleyville Community Day events are organized to bring the Whaleyville Community together for a day of fun and fellowship.

 

Arts & Crafts

  • Show Hours - Saturday, May 5th, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The event will be held rain or shine.
  • Eligibility - Artists and crafts persons who wish to exhibit and sell their original works may enter. The Whaleyville Ruritan Club reserves the right to reject any exhibitor’s work that is found unsuitable or not pre-registered on April 20th.
  • Fees - $50 per each 10’X10’ exhibitor booth space is required with entry application.
  • Show entry is limited to 50 exhibitors. Popular craft categories fill up fast, so enter early to assure an exhibitor booth space in the show.
  • All applications, fees and pictures/slides must be received by April 30th.
  • Applications received after April 30th will be considered only as space is available.
  • No entry fee refunds due to cancellations or inclement weather on the day of the show will be given.
  • On-site check-in will be from 7:00AM to 9:00AM on May 6th. Vehicles may drive into the show area for unloading but must be immediately removed from the exhibit areas for setup to begin.
  • A 5% Virginia Sales Tax applies to all sales made during the show. Individual exhibitors must report their taxes in accordance with State law. For amateur crafters, no sales tax is necessary due to statutes regarding 1 day events.

Business Expo & Exhibitor Booth Space

  • 10’X10’ booth spaces are available.
  • Exhibitors will be notified of booth space locations at site check-in on the day of the show. These spaces will be assigned in order of receipt of payment. Exhibitors are responsible for providing their own tables and chairs and for setting up their own displays.
  • This is an outdoor program; please bring appropriate quick cover in the event of a brief shower.
  • No electricity will be provided or flammables allowed.
  • Restroom facilities will be provided.
  • No cars are allowed in the exhibit area from 9:30AM until 4PM.

Whaleyville Community Day Car Show

The Whaleyville Community Day Car Show is open to all entries. The judging will be based on both the originality and customizations of the vehicle. Judging services will be performed by the Cars are Fun Car club.

  • Deadline - We will accept qualifying entries until 11:30AM. However, to better plan this event, please register and pay fees as soon as possible.
  • Prizes – Awards will be given for the top 25 vehicles overall.
  • Loud Music – Playing of loud, offensive, or objectionable music will be prohibited during the Community Day Car Show.
  • Entry Fee – Entry fee to enter your car into the car show is $20/car early bird, or $25/car day of show. Make checks payable to the Whaleyville Ruritan Club.
  • There will be 5 catagories
    • Best Ford
    • Best GM
    • Best Chrysler
    • Best Truck
    • Best Other
  • There will be trophies for the top 5 vehicles in each catagory.
  • The car show will be judged by the Cars Are Fun car club.
  • The vehicles will be judged from 1 to 3:30.
  • Trophies will be given at 4PM.

Whaleyville Community Day Pet Show

The Whaleyville Community Day Pet Show is open to all entries. The judging will be based on both obedience as well as “best looking”. We are planning to have agility demonstrations during the event.

  • Pet behavior – Pet owners will be responsible for their pets’ actions. All pets need to be well behaved, on a leash, and under control at all times. Owners will be responsible for picking up stool from their pets.

Whaleyville Community Day Parade

The purpose of the Whaleyville Community Day Parade is to provide the grand opening for a day of community celebration. This event is not to be used to promote social or political causes. The Whaleyville Ruritan Club reserves the right to reject any parade entry that does not conform to this mission.

  • Parade Route – Whaleyville Boulevard starting at John T. Mullin road to the Whaleyville Community Center
  • Deadline - We will accept qualifying entries until assembly time of 9:00AM. However, to better plan this event, please register and pay fees as soon as possible.
  • Entry Fee – There will be no entry fee to participate in the Parade.
  • Your unit is expected to be in the staging area at 9:00AM on Saturday the 6th of May.
  • There is LIMITED PARKING in the staging area at Robertson Elementary. For marching groups, we encourage car-pooling. There is no shuttle service to the destination of Whaleyville Community Center. All children/youth are to be picked up there.
  • Nothing can be thrown from or distributed by units in the parade. The Whaleyville Ruritan Club accepts no liability for actions of any parade participants. Riders on any parade vehicle must remain seated when the unit is in motion. It is the responsibility of all participants to properly chaperone themselves. Final decisions on the safety of a unit will be made by the Suffolk Fire Chief and/or officials of the Suffolk Police Department.
  • In order for everyone to enter the park quickly, there will be no exits open from the Whaleyville Community Center until approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the parade. It is your responsibility to notify members of your group that they cannot exit the park until the Suffolk Police reopen the exits.
  • Positions in the parade are assigned on the day of the parade in the order of arrival.

Liability
The Whaleyville Ruritan Club is not liable for any loss or damage to the participant and/or participant’s property. All exhibitor booths must be attended by the participant or proxy at all times throughout the festival hours.
